To Gender or not To Gender? Exploring Gender Variations through Time and Space

This article is based on an EAA session in Kiel 2021, which thirteen contributors provide their response to Robb and Harris's (2018) overview of studies gender the European Neolithic Bronze Age, with a reply by Harris. The central premise 2018 was opposition ‘contextual gender’ ‘cross-contextual Age gender’, created uneasiness among four co-organizers meeting. Reading original leaves impression that there essentialist ‘Neolithic’ ‘Bronze Age’ gender, former being under-theorized, unclear, unstable, latter binary, unchangeable, ideological. While Harris have clearly advanced discussion perspectives case presented here, while critical views, take debate further, painting more complex diverse picture strives avoid essentialism.
